About this shelf

Not every lost book fits a tidy shelf. Here are the psalms that never entered the Psalter, odes and oracles in the voices of sibyls and kings, testaments in which dying patriarchs divide their wisdom among their sons, and apocalypses that map heaven and hell with unsettling confidence. Some were quoted by church fathers as scripture; some survived in a single manuscript in a single language; all were pushed to the margins as the canon hardened — and all reward the reader who wants the tradition’s full breadth rather than its authorized summary.

Each text is a complete, unabridged edition in clear modern English, verified against the scholarly source translations.
