Alice sits on a bank beside her sister, bored and sleepy. Then a White Rabbit in a waistcoat runs by, mutters that he is late and takes out a watch. Burning with curiosity, she follows him down a rabbit hole without a thought about getting out.
After a slow fall she lands on sticks and dry leaves, then follows a passage to a hall of locked doors. A tiny door leads to a lovely garden, but Alice is too big. A bottle makes her shrink and a cake makes her grow.

Who wrote Alice in Wonderland and when?

Lewis Carroll was the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, born in Cheshire, England, in 1832. He lived and taught mathematics at Christ Church, Oxford. He wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865), Through the Looking-Glass (1871), and Sylvie and Bruno (1889). He died in Guildford, England, in 1898.
