E. Nesbit (1858-1924) was an English author and poet, one of the most influential writers of children's fiction and a pioneer of the modern children's adventure story. Her best-loved works include Five Children and It, in which siblings discover a wish-granting sand fairy; The Railway Children, a warm story of a family's changed fortunes; and The Story of the Treasure Seekers.
