About this book

What if your escape from a witch leads straight to a kingdom where knitting needles threaten a throne?

Tip has had enough of serving the witch Mombi. When her magic powder brings his pumpkin-headed creation to life, the boy finds a companion in Jack Pumpkinhead—and a reason to run. In L. Frank Baum’s The Marvelous Land of Oz, their escape opens a road full of strange inventions and unlikely friends.

But the Emerald City offers no quiet refuge. General Jinjur and her army of girls challenge the Scarecrow’s rule, drawing Tip into a struggle for the throne. With the gentle Tin Woodman and the boastful Woggle-Bug among the travelers, this quick, funny adventure asks what makes someone fit to rule.
