Who General Jinjur is
General Jinjur is a young woman whose army changes the course of Tip's visit to the Emerald City. Her Army of Revolt consists of girls and young women wearing bright uniforms and carrying knitting needles.
The city has few soldiers, and her attack depends more on surprise than on fighting. The invasion is almost bloodless, but it drives the Scarecrow from his palace and leaves the city confused.
What General Jinjur wants
Jinjur and her followers want to take the city, claim its emeralds and make the men do the housework. Their revolt brings questions about power into a story filled with magical creatures and comic inventions.

Jinjur opposes the Scarecrow, whose kindness and cleverness do not give him enough strength to protect his throne. Tip, Jack Pumpkinhead and the Saw-Horse become fugitives with him after her army takes control.
The friends seek help while Jinjur's forces hold the capital, turning toward Glinda for advice. Glinda's trained women soldiers offer a contrast to the rebels who follow Jinjur.
