Wilhelm Grimm was born in Hanau, Germany, in 1786 and died in Berlin in 1859. He was an author and philologist. With his brother Jacob, he collected and published fairy tales and legends. Their fairy-tale collection first appeared in 1812, followed by German Legends in 1816 and 1818.
