About this book
In a Paris of fortunes and sudden death, who stands to gain—and who can outwit Arsène Lupin?
Arsène Lupin knows how to outwit the police with charm and nerve. Now Maurice Leblanc’s gentleman burglar becomes an investigator, facing a hidden enemy in a case driven by inheritance. Money and family claims sit at its heart, along with a dangerous question: who gains when someone dies?
The Teeth of the Tiger draws you through a long chain of clues, with new facts arriving just when earlier ones seem settled. Lupin often appears to know more than anyone else in the room. Yet sharp questions and sudden surprises keep the mystery moving and its secrets out of reach.

A dying inspector leaves a blank page
At half past four in the Prefect's office, Inspector Vérot stumbles in, gray and soaked in sweat. He tells the private secretary that two murders are planned for tonight. He leaves a letter and a small box on the table, and walks out, saying he feels strangely ill.
A minute later he comes back, but the poison is working fast. He cannot see, and he takes the wrong turn behind a screen into the dressing closet. There he gasps that the job is set for tonight, and mutters about teeth closing on him until his voice fails.

Who is Arsène Lupin in this book?
Lupin is the gentleman burglar who was officially declared dead. He returns as Don Luis Perenna, a decorated Foreign Legion soldier, and helps the Paris police on the case while hiding his past.

The phrase names the strange tooth marks left in a bar of chocolate and in an apple at the crime scenes. The newspapers pick it up as a headline, and it becomes the label for the whole mystery.
