About this book
What if the comforts of England cannot quiet the jungle calling in your blood?
Jack grows up far from the African forest that shapes his father, Tarzan. In England, Tarzan lives as Lord Greystoke with his wife, Jane, who wants their son safe and happy. But Jack feels restless. The life his parents provide cannot satisfy his hunger for wild places.
In The Son of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs follows that hunger into the forest. Jack takes the name Korak and finds a companion and teacher in Akut, a great ape. As comfort gives way to the demands of the wild, his journey explores inherited strength and the pull between two worlds.

A ruined man brings a searching ape to London
The book opens on the Ugambi river in Africa, where sailors spot a skeletal white man waving from the bank. He gives his name as Michael Sabrov, but he is really Alexis Paulvitch, once a partner of the villain Rokoff in schemes against Tarzan. Ten years among cannibals have bent his body and scarred his face. His one feeling is hatred, aimed at Rokoff and above all at Tarzan.
A huge ape walks up to the sleeping Russian and tugs his shoulder. The animal studies the face of every sailor, sighs almost like a person and moves on. Paulvitch sees money in such a creature and keeps saying the ape is his.

What is The Son of Tarzan about?
It follows Jack Clayton, the son of Tarzan and Jane, who runs away from London with the ape Akut and grows up in the African jungle as Korak. He meets a girl named Meriem, and adventure, danger and love follow.
Who is Korak in The Son of Tarzan?
Korak is the jungle name Akut gives to Jack Clayton. It means Killer in the ape language. Jack adopts it after he leaves civilization and begins to live among apes, hunting and fighting by his father's skills.
Do you need to read Tarzan of the Apes first?
Not strictly. The book explains Tarzan's early life when he tells his son, and it introduces its own cast. Readers learn that Akut is Tarzan's old friend and that the Russian Paulvitch is his old enemy.
