About this book
What if the place that shapes your heart also makes you long for a wider life?
In Sally of Missouri, Rose E. Young brings romance into the wooded hills and narrow valleys of the Ozarks. Sally’s world is one of small farms, neighbors, work and old loyalties. Against this close-knit background, love and ambition pull at a young woman whose hopes reach beyond what her surroundings first seem to offer.
Affection must find its way past family expectations, social rank and distance. Belonging matters, but so does the desire for something more. This romance explores that tension through a spirited heroine and a landscape that shapes her choices. The pleasures lie in the sense of place, the local manners and the competing claims of home and hope.

A lonely New Yorker meets Missouri head on
The book opens on the crest of the Tigmore Hills. Bruce Steering, a young Yale graduate from New York, stops his horse and studies the wild country below him. He has come because his friend Carington told him to try Missouri, and because his money is running thin.
His old life drifts back in pictures: a bachelor hotel, an office on Nassau Street where he only pretended to work, and Miss Gossamer, a girl of lace and silk. Next to the grass moving in long green waves, none of it feels real.
