About this book

What can a gentle prince, a laughing king and a grumpy goat do when raiders destroy an island’s peace?

On the quiet island of Pingaree, Prince Inga lives under the rule of his father, King Kitticut. Then warriors from nearby islands attack a kingdom with no army to defend it. In L. Frank Baum’s Rinkitink in Oz, the kind young prince must act to save the people taken from his home.

Inga has three magic pearls, each with its own power, but his companions are just as striking. King Rinkitink of Gilgad loves laughter, music and a good meal. Bilbil, a talking goat, complains and argues but stays beside them. Together they travel through a dangerous fairy world, far from the Emerald City, seeking a way to rescue Pingaree’s people.

What you’ll discover

  • A prince worth following Meet a thoughtful young hero whose goodness matters as much as the magic he carries.
  • Three mysterious pearls Follow Inga as he faces danger with three pearls, each holding a different power.

  • Beyond the Emerald City Explore islands and kingdoms at the edge of the fairy world, far from familiar Oz.
  • Strength rooted in kindness Discover a gentle lesson in courage as Inga puts his gifts to work for others.

What do the three magic pearls do?

The blue pearl gives its owner great strength, the pink pearl protects him from every danger, and the white pearl speaks wise advice. They were a gift from the Mermaid Queen to an ancestor of the kings of Pingaree.

Who is King Rinkitink?

He is the round, merry ruler of Gilgad, a city that buys Pingaree's pearls. He runs away from his duties, rides a talking goat, makes up funny songs and stays loyal to Inga through every danger.
