About this book
What happens when loyalty demands one thing and revenge demands another?
In The Seventh Man, Max Brand brings you into a Western world of hard riding, quick tempers and moral tests. Wide open lands promise room to move, but small towns far from the law leave people facing hard choices. Horses and guns belong to a world where decisions cannot always wait.
At its heart, this adventure sets loyalty against revenge. Bonds to friends, family or a code can pull against the urge to answer harm with harm. Brand also explores redemption: the chance to set a life right after wrongdoing or loss. The question is not only what a man does, but whether he can find a way back.

Spring breaks a lonely miner's silence
The book opens with a comparison. A man under thirty needs neighbours, and a long silence is like a dam on a river. Vic Gregg has lived alone all winter, drilling fourteen claims for the Duncans. He wants to marry Betty Neal, and marriage means money, so he has worked himself nearly to the bone.
He sets a rusty alarm clock so that he can drop into sleep after supper, because the evenings hurt most. Then one morning two eagles fight over a mate above his head, and the winner screams down the valley. His longing for company draws him away from the drilling.
