About this book

What does loyalty mean when a crown loses its power and ordinary people begin to shape history?

In The Hero of the People, Alexandre Dumas turns the fall of the French monarchy into historical adventure. France is caught between an old order and the struggle for something new. In the streets, clubs and courts, power is contested. Ordinary people step into history, and the idea of a hero who earns their trust carries weight.

Love, loyalty and danger give this historical romance its pull. Forbidden love stands beside political upheaval, raising questions about the lines drawn by class, family and belief. Dumas brings these concerns into a world where the crown weakens and unrest touches every life. What can people hold onto when the order around them begins to fall?
