About this book

In the purple sage country, a woman's kindness puts her ranch, her home, and her independence at risk.

In Zane Grey's Riders of the Purple Sage, Jane Withersteen owns a prosperous ranch in Cottonwoods, Utah. A devout Mormon, she refuses to let local religious leaders rule her conscience. Elder Tull wants her to marry him and threatens those she protects. When his men threaten her friend Bern Venters, the feared gunman Lassiter arrives.

As cattle vanish and her ranch grows less secure, Jane faces pressure that reaches beyond armed violence. Lassiter protects her while pursuing a grievance of his own. Meanwhile, Venters follows rustlers into the canyons and encounters a masked rider linked to Oldring's band. Across exposed plains and sheltered valleys, loyalty, love, and independence carry real danger.
