오늘의 영어로 읽는 셰익스피어

Shakespeare's Sonnet 117

셰익스피어의 원문과 쉬운 오늘의 영어를 한 줄씩 나란히 읽어요. 무료로 읽을 수 있어요.

Accuse me thus: that I have scanted all,Wherein I should your great deserts repay,Forgot upon your dearest love to call,Whereto all bonds do tie me day by day; That I have frequent been with unknown minds,And given to time your own dear-purchas’d right; That I have hoisted sail to all the windsWhich should transport me farthest from your sight.Book both my wilfulness and errors down,And on just proof surmise, accumulate;Bring me within the level of your frown,But shoot not at me in your waken’d hate;Since my appeal says I did strive to proveThe constancy and virtue of your love.

Accuse me of this: that I have done too little in every way to repay your great worth; that I have forgotten to call on your precious love, though every obligation binds me to it daily; that I have often spent time with strangers and surrendered to passing distractions the rights you bought so dearly; that I have set sail with every wind that would carry me farthest from your sight. Write down both my deliberate offenses and my mistakes, and add your suspicions to the proven charges. Make me the target of your anger, but do not fire at me with newly awakened hatred. My defense is that I was trying to test the faithfulness and strength of your love.

이 소네트에 관한 질문

Is the modern version the whole text?

Yes. Every line of the sonnet is here in plain modern English, in the same order, beside Shakespeare's own words.
