About this book

What is an ancient family name worth when keeping it may cost love, comfort or honour?

In Anthony Hope’s Tristram of Blent, an old English house holds more than family possessions. Blent carries a name, a history and a claim on the people who belong to it. For the central figure, Tristram, identity and inheritance raise a difficult question: what does a name really mean?

This romance explores a landed family’s world, where property brings duty and pride can bind as tightly as love. Hope turns from distant adventure to the pressures of home and family. Honour matters here, but acting honourably can mean surrendering comfort, love or advantage. What should a person be willing to give up?
