About this book
What is a family name worth when loyalty falters and honour puts survival at risk?
In The Honour of Savelli, S. Levett Yeats takes you into Renaissance Italy, where small states, powerful families and shifting alliances make a name matter. This historical adventure belongs to the swashbuckling tradition: proud men, sharp swords and rival houses fill a world where trust carries a cost.
Betrayal stands at the heart of the story, alongside honour and the possibility of redemption. The central question is personal: what must a hero do to remain worthy of his name? Across courts and countryside, quick action gives that question an edge, bringing loyalty into the path of danger.

A false charge destroys a soldier in one night
Ugo di Savelli is a captain of good family and a thin purse, serving in King Louis's army. At a supper near Arezzo, his rival D'Entrangues refuses to drink with him and calls him a thief. For weeks a clever thief has robbed the camp, and the duchess has lost a ruby circlet.
D'Entrangues asks for a search of Savelli's tent. His servant Tarbes is threatened with the wheel and points to a valise buried under a rug. Inside lie stolen goods, and a small key found on Savelli himself opens the lock. At the trial, Bayard asks how D'Entrangues knew of the deposit at all. But Tarbes has already been hanged, so no one can put the question to him.

Who is Savelli's enemy in the book?
His enemy is D'Entrangues, a French officer who hides stolen goods in Savelli's tent and accuses him in front of the army. His wife, Madame D'Entrangues, is Savelli's friend and plays a quiet part in the story.
Is The Honour of Savelli a true story?
No, it is an invented adventure set in the early 1500s. It uses real people such as Machiavelli, Bayard, Cardinal d'Amboise and Pope Alexander VI, and real places, but the central plot of Savelli's disgrace is fiction.
