About this book
What if the place that answers your deepest desires also draws you away from everything you believe?
In Nathan Gallizier’s The Hill of Venus, Tannhäuser is both knight and gifted singer. Drawn to the Venusberg, the hidden hill where the goddess Venus holds her court, he faces a world of beauty, song and ease. Yet pleasure pulls against the claims of duty, honor and faith.
This historical romance retells an old German legend within a medieval world of knights, minstrels, song contests and pilgrims on long roads. Gallizier gives that world rich description and strong feeling. At its heart is a struggle over forbidden love: what can a person desire without turning away from what he holds sacred?

A dying father demands a son's whole life
The story opens at dusk at the monastery of San Cataldo. Francesco arrives in a courtier's clothes and learns that his father lies dying of fever. A cold dread grows in him with every step down the dim corridors.
Gregorio fears Hell, because Francesco was born outside marriage and the Church has refused to forgive that sin. He has decided that a sacrifice is the only cure, and the only person he can claim is his son. Francesco must take the vows and live the life his father failed to live.
