About this book

What if doing what feels right means defying everything you have been taught?

Huckleberry Finn wants freedom from rules and his violent father. Jim runs from slavery, hoping to reach free territory and buy his wife and children out of bondage. Together, they travel down the Mississippi on a raft, finding companionship in a world that threatens Jim's freedom.

In Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, storms, fog, feuds and swindlers turn the river journey into a string of close escapes. Huck tells it all in his own plain, funny voice. Beneath the adventure lies a harder question: can he trust his heart when society teaches him that helping Jim is wrong?

What you’ll discover

  • A voice without polish Hear Huck describe adult behavior with an honesty that makes you laugh, then question.
  • Friendship on the river Share the raft with Huck and Jim as companionship becomes the heart of their journey.
  • A conscience under pressure Follow a boy struggling to separate what he is taught from what he feels.
  • Danger beyond the willows Encounter storms, bitter feuds and travelling swindlers who turn other people's trust into opportunity.
  • Satire with a sting Look past manners and proud claims of honor to the cruelty Huck's world accepts.

Who will love it

You will love this book if you enjoy a lively narrator, river adventure, sharp comedy about con men and fools, and a young person who trusts conscience over what society says.
