Chapter 6 of 23 · 7 min to read the chapter

In Chapter 6, Montgomery tows Prendick ashore, where strangely built workers unload animals and supplies at an isolated biological station. The white-haired host treats Prendick more respectfully after learning about his scientific training, but departure remains uncertain, and Montgomery warns him to take care where he goes.

What happens

  1. Montgomery returns in the crowded launch, gives Prendick a bucket, and tows his dinghy toward the island.
  2. Prendick studies three strangely proportioned boatmen whose appearance and movements disturb him.
  3. The boats reach a beach below a stone enclosure, and the workers begin unloading animals and supplies.
  4. The white-haired host learns about Prendick’s biological research, identifies the station’s purpose, and explains its isolation.
  5. Montgomery warns Prendick about exploring, then releases rabbits to increase the island’s meat supply.
  6. The host brings biscuits and brandy; Prendick eats but avoids alcohol.
