When Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva was practicing the profound perfection of wisdom, he clearly saw that the five aggregates were all empty and passed beyond all suffering and distress.

“Shariputra, form is not different from emptiness, and emptiness is not different from form. Form itself is emptiness, and emptiness itself is form. Feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are also like this.

“Shariputra, all phenomena are marked by emptiness: they neither arise nor cease, are neither defiled nor pure, and neither increase nor decrease. Therefore, in emptiness there is no form, no feeling, perception, mental formations, or consciousness; no eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind; no form, sound, smell, taste, touch, or mental object; no realm of the eye, and so on up to no realm of mind-consciousness; no ignorance and no ending of ignorance, and so on up to no aging and death and no ending of aging and death; no suffering, origin of suffering, cessation of suffering, or path; no wisdom and no attainment, because there is nothing to attain.

“Because bodhisattvas rely on the perfection of wisdom, their minds are without hindrance. Because they are without hindrance, they have no fear. Far removed from inverted views and dreamlike delusions, they attain ultimate nirvana. All Buddhas of the past, present, and future, because they rely on the perfection of wisdom, attain unsurpassed, complete and perfect awakening.

“Therefore, know that the perfection of wisdom is the mantra of great power, the mantra of great illumination, the unsurpassed mantra, the unequaled mantra, which can remove all suffering and is true, not false.”

Therefore, the mantra of the perfection of wisdom is proclaimed, recited as follows:
