Jesus the Christ, Chapter 13 summary

Chapter 13 of 41 · 15 min to read the chapter

In Chapter 13, Jesus identifies Himself as the Messiah to a Samaritan woman, gains Samaritan believers, and heals a nobleman’s son without visiting him. His reception contrasts with Nazareth’s violent rejection, after which He makes Capernaum His base, teaches with authority, drives out evil spirits, and heals the sick.

What happens

  1. At Jacob’s well, Jesus teaches a Samaritan woman about spiritual water, true worship, and His identity as the Messiah.
  2. The woman brings townspeople to Jesus, and many believe after hearing Him during His two-day stay.
  3. At Cana, Jesus assures a nobleman that his son lives; servants confirm that the boy recovers at the same hour.
  4. In Nazareth, Jesus applies Isaiah’s prophecy to Himself; the congregation tries to kill Him, but He passes through the crowd.
  5. In Capernaum, Jesus teaches authoritatively, expels an evil spirit, and heals people brought to Him after sunset.
  6. Jesus also heals Simon’s mother-in-law of a fever, and she immediately serves those present.
