Money cannot help Harvey at sea
Harvey Cheyne is fifteen, rich, and used to making himself noticed. On a liner, he counts his bills in public and tries to smoke a cigar that makes him miserably ill. When he slips away to a lonely deck, the ship rolls and throws him overboard.
Manuel rescues him in a dory and takes him to the fishing schooner We're Here. Harvey arrives expecting service, but this working boat has no use for his money. His rescue puts him among people who judge him by different rules.

What this book is
Picture a fifteen-year-old in a cherry-colored blazer, lighting a cigar he cannot handle, on a liner pushing through fog toward the Grand Banks. Within the hour he is overboard, and a Portuguese fisherman in a dory hauls him out among the cod. Nobody on the fishing schooner cares about his father's money.
Captains Courageous was written by Rudyard Kipling near the end of the nineteenth century.

Key point 1 of 10
A rich boy nobody likes falls overboard
The story opens in the smoking room of a big liner, where grown men talk about Harvey Cheyne as if he were bad weather. He is fifteen, loud and bored, and he carries a roll of bills that he likes to count in public. His mother lies sick in her stateroom, and his father is far away building railroads and mines.
Then a German hands Harvey a black cigar, and the men watch with quiet pleasure as he lights it. The cigar makes him wretchedly ill, but pride will not let him admit it. He creeps to a lonely deck at the stern, and a roll of the ship tips him over the rail.
He wakes on a pile of half-dead fish in a flat-bottomed dory. Manuel, the man rowing the dory, saw the boy fall. Soon comes the schooner We're Here out of Gloucester, and Harvey asks for milk as if a cow might be hiding in a bunk. Money buys nothing on this boat.
A boy saved from drowning is not yet saved from himself.
That’s 1 of 10 key points.
