About this book
What makes a girl truly nice when friendship, loyalty and growing up put kindness to the test?
In The Nicest Girl in the School, Angela Brazil brings you into the close world of boarding school. Girls live, eat, study and play together, far from their families. Friendship sits at the centre of this shared life, where learning to understand other people matters as much as learning lessons.
Growing up here means more than good manners. It means managing a temper, taking responsibility and seeing someone else more fairly. This gentle school story invites you to consider what kindness really asks of a person, and how loyalty and courage belong beside it.

In short
Meet the nicest girl in the school, and watch how little she needs to do to change everyone around her. Angela Brazil's school story follows Patty Hirst, the thirteen-year-old eldest daughter of a country doctor, through her first year at Morton Priory, a school built inside an old monastery.

A family daughter leaves for school
The day before Patty leaves her home in Kirkstone, she sits beside a new trunk while her mother packs. Patty is thrilled and frightened at once. Her worry has a name. Her cousin Muriel Pearson already attends Morton Priory, and Patty fears Muriel does not want her there.
Mrs. Hirst begs Patty to stay friendly all the same. Uncle Sidney is paying the whole cost, which the family could never afford alone. His letter asks Patty to treat Muriel as her special charge. That promise weighs on her more than anything else.
