About this book
What happens when a boy who can turn chores into triumphs faces danger he cannot charm away?
In Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Complete, Tom lives with Aunt Polly in St. Petersburg, Missouri, beside the Mississippi River. School and chores stand between him and the life he wants. When he must whitewash a fence, he makes other boys envy the task—and pay to take it off his hands.
With Huckleberry Finn, Tom trades ordinary routines for nighttime outings, secret plans, and dreams of buried treasure. But make-believe excitement gives way to genuine fear. Injun Joe’s crime makes speaking up dangerous, while an accusation against the vulnerable Muff Potter tests Tom’s conscience. Cleverness alone cannot tell him what to do.

In short
A boy who tricks his friends into painting a fence for him ends up as a witness to murder. That is the summer Mark Twain gives Tom Sawyer in his 1876 novel.
From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A trickster boy and a whitewashed fence
Aunt Polly finds Tom in the closet with jam on his hands. She reaches for a switch, and Tom cries out for her to look behind her. While she spins around, he scrambles over the fence and is gone. She laughs at herself, because Tom never uses the same trick two days running.
On Saturday his punishment is thirty yards of fence and a bucket of whitewash. Then Ben Rogers strolls by, pretending to be a steamboat. Tom paints as though it were the finest pleasure in the world and says only one boy in a thousand could do it right.
