Chapter 1

Peter, the apostle of Jesus Christ, to Philip, our beloved brother and fellow apostle, and to the brethren who are with you: greetings!

I want you to know, our brother, that we received orders from our Lord and Savior of the whole world that we should come together to give instruction and to preach the salvation that was promised us by our Lord Jesus Christ. But you have kept yourself apart from us, and you did not wish us to come together and work out how we should organize ourselves in order to proclaim the good news. So would it be agreeable to you, our brother, to come to us in accordance with the orders of our God Jesus?

When Philip received this letter and had read it, he went to Peter rejoicing with great gladness. Then Peter gathered the others as well. They went up to the mountain called the Mount of Olives, the place where they used to gather with the blessed Christ when he was in the body.

When the apostles had come together and had fallen on their knees, they prayed, saying, "Father, Father, Father of the light, who possesses the incorruptions, hear us, just as you took pleasure in your holy child Jesus Christ. For he became for us an illuminator in the darkness. Yes, hear us!"

Chapter 2

They prayed again, saying, "Son of life, Son of immortality, who dwells in the light, Son, Christ of immortality, our Redeemer, give us power, for they are seeking to kill us!"

Then a great light appeared, and the mountains shone from the sight of him who had appeared. A voice called out to them: "Listen to my words, that I may speak to you. Why are you asking me? I am Jesus Christ, who is with you always."

The apostles answered and said, "Lord, we want to know the deficiency of the aeons and their fullness." And: "How are we detained in this dwelling place?" And further: "How did we come to this place?" And: "In what manner shall we depart?" And again: "How do we have the authority to speak boldly?" And: "Why do the powers fight against us?"

Then a voice came to them out of the light: "You yourselves are witnesses that I spoke all these things to you. But because of your unbelief, I will speak again. First, concerning the deficiency of the aeons: the deficiency came about when the disobedience and foolishness of the Mother appeared without the commandment of the Father's majesty. She wanted to establish aeons. And when she spoke, the Arrogant One followed. And when she left a part of herself behind, the Arrogant One seized it, and it became a deficiency. This is the deficiency of the aeons. Then the Arrogant One took that part and sowed it. He placed powers and authorities over it, and he enclosed it within the aeons that are dead. All the powers of the world rejoiced that they had been brought into being — yet they do not know the pre-existent Father, for they are strangers to him. He is the one to whom they gave power, and whom they served with their praise. But the Arrogant One grew proud because of the praise of the powers. He became envious, and he wanted to make an image in place of an image, and a form in place of a form. He commissioned the powers under his authority to mold mortal bodies. And these came into being through a misrepresentation — through the semblance that had appeared.
