About this book
Far from towns and far from help, what matters most: duty, family, or the need to stay alive?
In Snow-Blind, Albert M. Treynor takes you into the Canadian wilderness, where winter and distance shape every choice. Mounted Police officers, trappers, and families inhabit a world of snow, ice, and long silence. Here, help is distant, travel is slow, and the struggle for warmth and shelter gives adventure its sharp edge.
Family loyalty stands beside duty at the heart of this northern tale. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police represent law on a vast frontier, while family bonds carry special weight where help is so far away. Beneath these pressures lies a plain, urgent question: how do people survive when the cold makes every basic need matter?

From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A radio message sends Kit north
Kitchener Tearl, twenty-four, hears a radio letter meant for Sergeant Buck Tearl of the Mounted Police. It is signed Diane and urges the sergeant to seek answers from Kablunak's band on Queen Maud Sea. Kit is sure Buck is his brother Jerry, who vanished years ago after a savage street fight.
His family has a long northern history. His grandfather served the Hudson's Bay Company, and his father, Inspector Bill Tearl, disappeared in the wilds twelve years earlier. Every January since then, an anonymous five thousand dollars has arrived at the family home, and the family has never spent it.

What is Snow-Blind about?
It follows Kitchener Tearl, a New York lawyer who goes to the Canadian north to find his brother, a Mountie. He ends up posing as a sergeant in a hunt for a killer, a gold sled and his missing father.
What does snow-blind mean in the book?
It means two things. Literally it is the painful loss of sight caused by sun on snow. Jerry also uses it for the way the north takes hold of a man's heart and will not let go.
Who is Hell Bent?
Simeon Bent is an ex-convict thought to have ambushed Inspector Tearl's party twelve years ago. Kit and Jerry believe he is coming back to claim a hidden sled of gold. The novel keeps readers guessing about who he really is.
