この本について
What happens when a church divides over the body, creation, and the hope of rising from the dead?
The Third Epistle to the Corinthians presents a church in crisis. Stephen and the elders report that Simon and Cleobius bring troubling teachings to Corinth. In the letter, Paul answers from prison, defending the goodness of creation, Christ’s birth in a real body, and resurrection in the flesh.
Preserved within the Acts of Paul, this short text speaks in the apostle’s name, though scholars generally attribute it to another writer. Once read as scripture in the Armenian Church, it offers a glimpse of how early Christians debate belief and keep a Pauline voice alive after Paul.

A prisoner answers a church in crisis
The letter opens with a plain greeting. Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, writes to the brethren in Corinth. From the first line he is in chains. The setting is not a quiet study. It is framed by Paul's imprisonment and a worried church in Corinth.
What has happened in Corinth? The Corinthians write first. They tell Paul that two teachers, Simon and Cleobius, have come among them. These men deny that God made heaven and earth. They reject the authority of the Hebrew prophets. They deny that the dead will rise. The Corinthians ask Paul what they should do.

What is the Third Epistle to the Corinthians about?
It is a short letter in Paul's name answering a church in Corinth troubled by two teachers, Simon and Cleobius. It defends God as creator, the real flesh of Christ, the Old Testament prophets and the rising of the dead.
Did Paul really write Third Corinthians?
Most scholars think not. They date it to the second century and see it as the work of a later author who wrote in Paul's name to meet a new danger, drawing closely on his genuine letters.
Why is Third Corinthians not in most Bibles?
The New Testament was gathered gradually and unevenly, and churches drew its edges in different places. Many communities did not read this letter as scripture, though the churches of Syria and Armenia did.
