この本について
What if the visible world is only the lowest reach of a vast realm of light?
The Gospel of the Egyptians, also called the Holy Book of the Great Invisible Spirit, presents an ancient Gnostic vision of cosmic origins and spiritual rescue. Rather than telling the life of Jesus, it describes a hidden divine source, heavenly powers, and a spiritual seed that belongs to the world above.
Scholars link the text to Sethian Gnostics, who honour Seth, the son of Adam and Eve, as a divine ancestor. Its pages move from the Great Invisible Spirit to four luminaries and the world below. At its heart lies a question: how can the divine seed escape a hostile world and return to light?

What if the oldest story were not about a creator who makes a good world, but about a silence so deep that even praise has to come out as vowels? That is where the Gospel of the Egyptians begins.

A Coptic hymn from a buried jar
The Gospel of the Egyptians survives in Coptic among the manuscripts found at Nag Hammadi in Upper Egypt in 1945. Most place the original in the third century or earlier.
The find has a story of its own. A peasant's mattock strikes a sealed jar buried in the desert of Upper Egypt. Inside lie leather-bound codices hidden for some sixteen centuries, probably by monks who sensed that the campaign against so-called heretical books was closing in. A separate Greek writing also carries the title Gospel of the Egyptians, but it is a different text.

What is the Gospel of the Egyptians about?
It tells how the divine world emerges from a hidden Father, a Mother, and a Son, how Seth plants a heavenly seed in the world, and how baptism and prayer lead that seed back to the light.
Is the Gospel of the Egyptians in the Bible?
No. Church leaders and later councils fixed the lists of accepted scripture without it, and it was lost until the Nag Hammadi books were found in 1945. It was valued by Sethian Gnostic readers.
Who is Seth in the Gospel of the Egyptians?
Seth is the son of the heavenly man Adamas and a divine revealer. He receives the seed, guards it with angels, and comes through the flood, the fire, and the judgment to save it.
