White Fang in short
White Fang follows one wolf from his birth in a cave to a life among people, and each step changes him. As a cub, he learns the law that every living thing is either eater or eaten. In an Indian camp, he learns that men are gods, and that the club in their hand makes them so.
What White Fang is about
What does a wolf learn when the world around him is made of hunger, and then of gods? White Fang begins in the frozen North, where two men haul a coffin through the snow while a starving pack closes in behind them. Then the story follows a wolf cub born into that cold.
He tells the story from near the animal's perspective, tracing its struggles, fierce instincts, and growing capacity for affection.
Для кого. This book suits readers who love animal stories told from the animal's side, tales of the Arctic, and big questions about what makes a creature fierce or gentle, wild or tame.

Starving wolves stalk two men and their sled
The novel opens on a frozen river in the far North. Two men, Henry and Bill, drag a sled carrying a long box, and inside it lies a dead man. Behind them, a pack of wolves follows the trail and calls through the dark.
Each night the pack grows bolder, and each morning a dog is gone. A she-wolf, red-grey and clever, lures a dog out so the pack can fall on him.
Then One Ear follows her away from the sled. Bill chases after him with the rifle, and Henry hears three shots, a burst of snarling, and then silence. Alone, Henry fights off the wolves with burning sticks.
This section sets the rule of the whole book. The wild does not hate. It simply eats, and anything that moves is meat. Man survives only through fire, cleverness and company.
In the wild, the weak are always being watched by the strong.

How it ends (spoiler)
White Fang is badly hurt after he stops an escaped convict, Jim Hall, from attacking the Scott family at Sierra Vista. Doctors give him almost no chance, but the family nurses him through weeks of bandages and casts. He learns to walk again, and the household calls him the Blessed Wolf. In the sun, he lets Collie's puppies tumble over him.

Вопросы о книге White Fang
What is White Fang about?
It follows a wolf-dog from his birth in the northern wilderness through harsh years with an Indian master and a cruel fight promoter, until a kind miner wins his trust and takes him south.
Is White Fang a true story?
No, it is a novel written by Jack London and published in 1906. It draws on the Klondike gold rush and the northern world London knew, but the wolf-dog and his story are invented.
Is White Fang a sequel to The Call of the Wild?
It is a companion rather than a sequel. The earlier book shows a tame dog going wild, while White Fang tells of a wild animal who comes to live with people. The two stories mirror each other.
Who are the gods in White Fang?
White Fang calls humans gods because they have power over fire, weapons and other animals. Grey Beaver, Beauty Smith and Weedon Scott are each a different kind of god, cruel or kind.
What is the main message of White Fang?
The book shows how experience shapes character. Cruelty hardens White Fang into a fighter, while patience and love draw out loyalty and gentleness. It also suggests that strong will can survive great change.
