Как это работает

Переводчик заменяет повседневные слова теми, которые использовались примерно в 1600 году (you становится thou или thee, your — thy, are — art, does — doth), и добавляет старинные глагольные окончания. Это игровое подражание стилю, а не строка из пьес.

How does the Shakespeare translator work?

It follows spelling rules and word lists in your browser. It turns you into thou or thee, your into thy or thine, and verbs into their old forms (thou lovest, he loveth), and it swaps everyday words for the ones used around 1600, such as yes for aye and why for wherefore. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

What is the difference between thou, thee, thy and thine?

Thou is the one who acts (thou art kind), thee is the one who receives (I love thee), thy goes before a consonant sound (thy name) and thine before a vowel sound or on its own (thine eyes, the book is thine). Ye is the plural.

Is the result real Shakespeare?

No. It is a playful imitation of his style, built from the spelling and the word choices of his time. It never quotes a line from the plays.

Why does it leave some words as they are?

Most words did not change between his day and ours, so only the words and the endings that changed are swapped.

Is it free?

Yes. It is free to use as often as you like, with no sign-up.
