The Revolt on Venus in short
The Revolt on Venus is a story of three friends who set out for a holiday and end up facing a secret army. A bomb on a ship, a pawnshop call, a smooth host and a locked shed all point the same way. The cadets work out the pattern only by acting together.
What The Revolt on Venus is about
What would you do if a bomb were stuck to the fin of your spaceship, and the only one who knew about it was the cadet watching the stars? That happens early in The Revolt on Venus, a story that never stops moving.
Carey Rockwell wrote this Tom Corbett Space Cadet adventure for young readers who love rockets, jungles and quick, loyal friendships. The year is 2353. Three top cadets head for Venus on leave to hunt a tyrannosaurus. Instead they land among a secret army, stolen tickets, a spy in the Solar Guard and a hidden jungle city. You will meet gruff Major Connel, giant Astro, flip Roger Manning and steady Tom Corbett.
Для кого. Perfect for readers who enjoy rocket ships, steaming jungles, secret bases and teams of friends who joke and fight side by side.

Three cadets win honors, then get a mission
The story opens two hundred miles above Earth. Cadet Tom Corbett drifts alone in a spacesuit with his helmet blacked out. He must find his way back to the Polaris using only spoken orders from Captain Steve Strong. He makes it in nine minutes and fifty-one seconds and wins term honors for his unit.
The scene sets up the three friends. Tom commands, Roger Manning handles radar and navigation, and Astro, the huge Venusian cadet, runs the atomic engines. They trade insults the whole way home. Back at Space Academy, their leave plans are already set. They will go to Venus and hunt a tyrannosaurus.
Meanwhile, Commander Walters hears of a secret group on Venus that meets in uniform. He decides to send Major Connel quietly, so that no one innocent is hurt. The cadets' plans then go wrong. Their seats on the Venus Lark are taken by a nervous young man with a priority pass, and Strong wonders why a courier would need one.
When a small thing feels wrong, someone in the story always notices.

Main characters
- Tom Corbett The curly-haired command cadet of the Polaris unit, steady and quick-thinking, who wants to protect his friends and finish the mission.
- Roger Manning The blond radar and navigation cadet, a joker and flirt, who spots danger fast and bickers with Astro but would never abandon him.
- Astro The giant Venusian power-deck cadet, expert on atomic engines and the jungle, who wants to prove his loyalty to the Solar Guard.
- Major Lou Connel A gruff, hard-driving Solar Guard officer sent to Venus to look into a secret group, who trusts action over diplomacy.
- Captain Steve Strong The Polaris unit's skipper, fair and friendly, who watches over his cadets and notices what others miss.
- Commander Walters The head of Space Academy and the Solar Guard, who wants to protect the Alliance without harming innocent people.
- Rex Sinclair A white-haired planter on the jungle's edge who welcomes the cadets to his crystal-roofed home and says he wants to be left in peace.
- E. Philips James The smooth Solar Delegate for Venus, who says little and calls the Venusian Nationalists a harmless club.
How it ends (spoiler)
Sinclair, the planter, is Lactu, the head of the Nationalists. After the Solar Guard wins the space battle, he takes Tom and Roger hostage and marches them through a tunnel to a hidden ship. Roger tries to restrain the slaves from attacking their guards. Tom fights Sinclair on the control deck and knocks him out. Connel, Strong and Astro round up the rebels, who are sent to a prison asteroid. The cadets learn their summer leave started it all, and that classes resume in three days.
