The Doomsman in short
The Doomsman follows one young man through the wreckage of America in the year 2015. A cruel raider marks his ear and destroys his home, and each visit to New York teaches him how the old machines worked and who rules Doom. What you keep is a set of contrasts.
What The Doomsman is about
What would you do if your whole picture of the old world came from a child's history book? Constans, a nineteen-year-old son of a country lord, sits on a beach and stares through broken binoculars at the dark ruin of New York. His people call it Doom the Forbidden, and they fear it.
The Doomsman is an adventure novel by Van Tassel Sutphen, set in 2015, ninety years after the Great Change wiped out the civilization we know. Outlaw descendants of old convicts rule the empty city.
Для кого. You will love this book if you enjoy a feud at the heart of an adventure, ruined cities overgrown by forest, or a boy who sets out to avenge his family.

A dreamer on the beach meets his enemy
On a beach of yellow sand in early May, Constans sits on a log and studies the ruin of New York through binoculars with one broken lens. He wears deer hide and carries a hickory bow with arrows marked by a scarlet feather. On his knee lies A Child's History of the United States.
Then a spear grazes his shoulder from behind. Constans runs, and a rider in claret velvet follows on a blood bay horse. The boy crosses a rotting bridge and sends an arrow into the rider's arm.
This is Quinton Edge, a Doomsman who bows like a courtier. When Constans learns that his sister Issa is in danger, he crashes his mare into the rider's horse and saves her. Quinton Edge cuts a small notch in the boy's ear, the mark of ownership, and rides away. One careless morning gives Constans an enemy and a brand he cannot wash away.
