Собрание стихотворений Руперта Брука in short
This collection brings together dark, questioning early verse, bright travel poems and the war sonnets of 1914. Along the way you meet love that rises and fades, jokes that deflate grand ideas, and a long list of small things worth being thankful for. Keep an ear out for the turn in each poem, where a mood changes on a single image.
What Собрание стихотворений Руперта Брука is about
What does a young man write when he sees both a gentle English summer and a coming war? Rupert Brooke wrote poems about lovers, the sea, the dead and Grantchester. This collection gathers his early verse, his love poems, his travel poems from the South Seas, his five war sonnets and a few light pieces. You will meet a poet who moves from doubt and bitter wit to open praise of ordinary things.
Для кого. You will love this book if you enjoy love poems, English landscape, travel verse, war poetry and sharp comic rhymes, and if you like reading poems aloud.

The early poems face night, death and doubt
The collection opens with poems written between 1905 and 1908. They speak to the heart in the dark and ask what is left once the old hopes of heaven are gone. Night, silence and the sea come back again and again.
In Second Best the speaker tells his heart to give up dreams of immortality and to meet death as a friend. In The Day I Have Loved, a finished day is laid in a boat and rowed out to sea like a body. In Pine Trees and the Sky, a sad evening turns to peace when the poet looks at dark pines against a pale sky.
These poems show a young writer trying on big feelings and big images. They also show his habit of ending in a small, calm moment. Read them for their music, and watch for the way a mood turns on a single picture.
