Моральные сочинения Плутарха in short
Taken together, the essays make one argument about the good life at home. Character grows from nature, teaching and practice, and love in the family is natural. A good marriage and a good friendship need constancy, kindness and plain speech.
What Моральные сочинения Плутарха is about
How do you raise a child who will turn out well? Plutarch answers with two puppies, a hare and a dish of food. The Spartan lawgiver Lycurgus raises one puppy in comfort and the other as a hunter. Set before both a hare and a dish, one runs for the hare and the other for the food.
That scene appears early in Plutarch's Morals, a collection of essays on living well at home and among friends. Plutarch was a Greek writer from Chaeronea who died in 119. He writes warmly and often with humor about children, marriage, grief, friendship, anger and exile. You get plain rules, each backed by a saying or a scene from Athens, Sparta or Rome.
Для кого. This is for readers who like wise advice on daily life, short essays full of ancient stories, and a calm, humane voice on marriage, friendship, anger and grief.

Character grows from nature, teaching and practice
Plutarch says that goodness needs three things working together, which are natural ability, instruction and practice. He compares them to a farm, where ability is the soil, the teacher is the farmer and the lessons are the seed.
Effort can beat a poor start. Water that drips on a rock wears it away, and rough ground bears a good crop when it is worked. Lycurgus gives the proof with his two puppies. They share the same parents, yet upbringing makes one a pampered pet and the other a hunter.
From this Plutarch advises parents. Mothers should nurse their own children when they can, and any nurse must have good habits, because young minds take impressions like wax. Fathers should choose tutors for their character, not for low fees. Education matters most because no loss can take it away. Good teachers, kind guidance and steady habits turn early lessons into character.
