The Third Epistle to the Corinthians in short
The Third Epistle to the Corinthians is a short letter built around one crisis. Two teachers, Simon and Cleobius, tell the church in Corinth that God did not make the world, that the prophets cannot be trusted, and that the body will not rise. The letter answers each claim in turn, in the voice of Paul the prisoner.
What The Third Epistle to the Corinthians is about
What would you write to a church that has just been told that God did not make the world, and that the body will never rise? That is the situation behind the Third Epistle to the Corinthians. It presents itself as the answer of Paul, a prisoner for Christ, to a community shaken by two teachers named Simon and Cleobius.
The letter is brief, only four short chapters. Most scholars think a later writer of the second century used the apostle's name to meet a new danger. In Syria and Armenia it was read in worship. You will hear what it says about creation, the prophets, the body of Christ and the rising of the dead.
Для кого. You will enjoy this if you love early Christian writings, the story of how the New Testament took shape, or short letters with strong convictions. It suits curious believers and students of religion.

A prisoner answers a church in crisis
The letter opens with a plain greeting. Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, writes to the brethren in Corinth. From the first line he is in chains. The setting is not a quiet study. It is framed by Paul's imprisonment and a worried church in Corinth.
What has happened in Corinth? The Corinthians write first. They tell Paul that two teachers, Simon and Cleobius, have come among them. These men deny that God made heaven and earth. They reject the authority of the Hebrew prophets. They deny that the dead will rise. The Corinthians ask Paul what they should do.
Paul's reply is short and moves quickly. He states what he taught from the beginning, answers the denials one at a time, gives pictures from Scripture, and closes with a warning and a blessing. Most scholars judge that an unknown writer used the apostle's name. In the ancient world this was one way of asking what a revered teacher would say to a new danger.
The letter is a second-century answer to a crisis, spoken in the voice of Paul the prisoner.
