The Tripartite Tractate in short
The Tripartite Tractate tells one story in three parts. The Father, beyond every name, brings forth the Son and the Church of aeons. The youngest aeon, the Logos, reaches too far, and from his fall come shadows and a lower world ruled by a Demiurge who does not know his own source.
What The Tripartite Tractate is about
In December 1945 a farmer named Muhammad Ali al-Samman dug near the Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi and found a sealed clay jar. Inside were thirteen papyrus books written in Coptic. One held a treatise that asks where the universe comes from, why evil stands beside good, and what a human being really is.
The Tripartite Tractate is the work of an unknown Valentinian Christian teacher, written in Greek in the late second or early third century. You will meet a Father beyond every name, and a young aeon whose reach for the unreachable sets a universe in motion.
Для кого. This book suits readers who love early Christian history, mystical writing and big questions about God, evil and the human soul. It also rewards anyone curious about the Nag Hammadi discovery.

A Valentinian treatise rose from a buried library
The Tripartite Tractate belongs to the Nag Hammadi library, thirteen books found in Upper Egypt in 1945.
The treatise belongs to the Valentinian school, named for Valentinus, a Christian teacher from Egypt who later taught in Rome. Before 1945, most of what the world knew of the school came from church fathers such as Irenaeus, who wrote against it. Here the school speaks in its own words.
The work has three parts. The first describes the Father, the Son and the Church of aeons, and the fault that disturbs that realm. The second follows the fault down into the making of the lower world and the coming of the Savior. The third describes three kinds of human being and the path of return. A few words need a key. The Pleroma is the fullness, the whole divine realm. Aeons are the beings who unfold from the Father inside it. The Logos is the Word, the youngest of them. The Demiurge is the lower ruler who shapes the visible world.
The Valentinians saw themselves as Christians with a deeper reading of the faith. The treatise leans on the Gospel of John and the letters of Paul.
A single treatise gives you the Valentinian vision in its own words.
