Копи царя Соломона in short

King Solomon's Mines follows a simple shape. A cautious old hunter, a gentle giant, and a neat naval officer follow a dying man's map across a desert and over snowy mountains. They look for a lost brother and a legendary hoard, and they find a hidden kingdom with its own army, king and rituals.

What Копи царя Соломона is about

What would you give up for a chance at the richest treasure on earth? In King Solomon's Mines, an old elephant hunter named Allan Quatermain gets a map written in blood. It points across a waterless desert and snowy peaks toward a lost kingdom and a hoard of diamonds.

H. Rider Haggard published this adventure in 1885, and he gave the telling to Quatermain himself. Quatermain is a small, cautious trader who hates violence and has seen far too much of it. He meets Sir Henry Curtis, a giant who looks like an ancient Dane, and Captain John Good, a neat naval officer with a monocle. You will cross a desert on a few sips of water and meet a cruel king and an ancient witch.

Для кого. You will love this book if you enjoy treasure maps, lost kingdoms and desert crossings told by a wry, honest narrator. It suits anyone who likes a fast quest with memorable companions.

The story in 10 parts

A timid hunter takes a daring bargain

Allan Quatermain opens the book as a man of fifty-five, laid up in Durban with a leg that still aches from a lion's bite. He calls himself timid, and he writes to tell his son Harry an extraordinary story. His blunt, wry voice carries everything that follows.

The adventure begins on a ship sailing from Cape Town to Natal. Quatermain notices a huge yellow-bearded man and a stout, spotless naval officer with a monocle. They are Sir Henry Curtis and Captain John Good. In his cabin Sir Henry tells a painful story. Five years earlier he quarreled with his younger brother George, and the land passed to Sir Henry alone. George left for Africa under the name Neville.

Quatermain met Neville and heard he was bound for Solomon's Mines. At first he refuses to join the search, because he has a son to support. Then he sets his terms, including provision for Harry if he does not return. A risk is easier to take when it is for someone you love.
