Ирландские сказки in short
The ten tales move in a circle. They begin with a saint hearing an ancient man recall the first days of Ireland, and they end with a storyteller telling a king's own tale to a monastery. In between, Fionn grows from a hidden boy into the leader of the Fianna, and the people of Faery keep stepping into mortal lives.
What Ирландские сказки is about

A man remembers every shape he has worn
Finnian, abbot of Moville, hears that a powerful Ulster gentleman still follows the old gods. The man bolts his doors and ignores saints' days. Finnian sits at the gate and fasts, until the gentleman gives in and carries the weak saint inside.
Finnian asks for his story, because a man is known by his past. The gentleman is Tuan, son of Cairill, and he calmly says he came to Ireland with Partholon, soon after the Flood. A sickness killed all of Partholon's people in a week. Only Tuan lived, alone for twenty-two years and chased by wolves, until he saw a hairy, clawed creature in a pool.
Then he falls asleep among howling trees and wakes as a young stag, strong and joyful. Later he becomes a boar, a hawk and a salmon. As a salmon he feels the sea hold him, until a fisherman lands him. Memory keeps a person whole, even across a thousand changes.
