A healer leaves his own daughter unhealed
The story opens on the Lord's day. A crowd brings the sick to Peter, and he heals the blind, the deaf and the lame. Then a man asks a sharp question. Why has Peter never helped his own daughter, who lies paralysed down one side?
Peter shows that he can. He tells the girl to rise, and she walks to him before everyone. The people rejoice. Then Peter tells her to go back and lie down, and she does. He explains that a vision warned him her beauty would bring harm to many souls if her body stayed whole. A rich man named Ptolemaeus once had her carried off, and she was left at Peter's door withered down one side. The body that drew danger was set aside to keep her safe.
