Imagery and description
A passage may linger over sights, sounds, and comparisons, or offer only a few details. The amount and kind of description are part of its style.
At the opening of Bleak House, descriptions of mud, smoke, and fog spread across London and reach the court of Chancery. The repeated details make the city and its legal system feel tangled and oppressive.
