In Chapter 13, the narrator explores the Cemetery of Scutari, describes burial customs, and finds that exposed human remains calm rather than frighten him. He then walks through Hyder-Pacha among women, carriages, vendors, and riders, moving from reflection on death to a strong awareness of life.
