この本について
What if a holy man refuses to surrender his soul until God answers his questions about human suffering?
In the Apocalypse of Sedrach, a holy man faces death with a plea for others. According to the text, God asks Sedrach to surrender his soul. But Sedrach weeps for humanity and questions divine justice, turning his own departure into an urgent argument about the fate of sinners.
This early Christian apocryphal text brings sin, suffering and mercy into a bold dialogue. Sedrach asks for compassion; God answers with the weight of human wrongdoing. Alongside their exchange, heavenly messengers and the soul’s passage beyond death give shape to questions that remain difficult: why people suffer, and what repentance can mean.

A Greek dialogue that survives in several versions
The Apocalypse of Sedrach is a short work written in Greek, and its heart is a conversation between one man and God. Its author is unknown. Scholars disagree about its date. Some of its ideas point to the second or third century, while its manuscripts give it a final shape in the early medieval period.
The word apocalypse comes from the Greek apokalypsis, an unveiling. A seer is carried to heaven and shown what is usually hidden. Here the heavenly scenery is thin. The text cares far more about what is said than about what is seen, and what is said is an argument that is also a prayer.
