ダビデの家の王子 in short
The book follows one letter-writer through three years in Jerusalem. Adina arrives at a Temple full of noise and fading faith. She meets a prophet at the Jordan, a quiet carpenter baptized there, and a growing circle of friends in Bethany and the city.
What ダビデの家の王子 is about
What would it be like to stand in Jerusalem as a prophet from the wilderness began to shake the city? This book puts you in that scene. It is told by Adina, a young Jewish woman from Alexandria, who writes to her father in Egypt.
The Prince of the House of David was written by J. H. Ingraham, an American author who died in 1860. It is a series of thirty-nine letters. Adina lodges with her uncle Amos, a priest, and reports all she sees. You get the Gospel story through one witness, with the streets, courts and families of the holy city filled in around it.
対象読者. You will love this book if you enjoy biblical storytelling, letters and diaries, and vivid scenes of ancient Jerusalem. It suits readers who like familiar events seen through a warm, close witness.

A young woman finds a Temple losing its spirit
Adina arrives in Jerusalem from Alexandria after a long road through Gaza. She writes at once to her father, as she promised. Her letters make up the whole book, and they carry a daughter's love and a sharp eye.
She stays with Amos, a Levite and a priest. Her first visit to the Temple startles her. The outer court is packed with sellers of doves, lambs and oxen, and the noise drowns out prayer. At dawn a thousand silver trumpets wake the city. Then Roman bugles cut across the evening rite, and Adina weeps.
Amos admits that no prophet has spoken for nearly three hundred years, and many priests have grown corrupt. The splendor, he says, hides decay within. Adina reads Malachi and his promise of a messenger. Show without spirit is empty, and her first lesson is to look beneath the gold.
