コーナー・ハウス・ガールズ、学校へ行く in short

The book follows four sisters, a household of eccentrics, and one mysterious boy through a single school year. What you keep is a feeling for a particular kind of friendship. Agnes defends the unlucky, Ruth gives wisely, and Neale learns that pride and trust can live together.

What コーナー・ハウス・ガールズ、学校へ行く is about

What happens when a goat with a noble beard arrives at a house full of girls a week before school? In The Corner House Girls at School, the answer is trouble, laughter, and a friendship that changes a boy's life. Grace Brooks Hill wrote it as the second book in a series about four orphaned sisters, and it follows them through one school year in the town of Milton.

Ruth, Agnes, Tess, and Dot Kenway live in a huge old mansion on Main Street. Ruth is sensible, Agnes is reckless, and the younger two are sweet and literal. Underneath runs one quiet question. Who is the white-haired boy who catches Agnes in a peach tree, and what is he afraid of?

対象読者. You will love this book if you enjoy warm family stories, schoolyard rivalries, old-fashioned Christmas scenes, and funny animals. It suits readers who like sisters who tease and comfort each other.

The story in 10 parts

A mischievous gift arrives at the Corner House

The book opens with a gift that nobody trusts. Sam Pinkney, a boy known for causing trouble, ties his old goat Billy Bumps beside the woodshed and solemnly hands him to little Tess. The four sisters call a family meeting on the spot.

Dot explains the likely motive. Billy Bumps butted the new minister straight through a cellar window, and the poor man landed headfirst in the winter's coal. Then the goat camped outside the front door and held him prisoner until Sam came home from school. The sisters laugh until they are doubled over.

Billy proves his character within minutes. He chews up the housekeeper's best black stocking, and Tess promises to pay for it herself. Uncle Rufus grumbles, but he offers to shut the goat in an empty chicken run behind strong wire. Ruth gives way, though she does not want a menagerie. A gift that looks like a prank can become part of the family.
