雪盲 in short
Snow-Blind begins with a radio message and ends with Kit and Diane at Great Owl Run. In between, Kitchener Tearl searches for a vanished father and a brother hiding in the police under a nickname. He wears a borrowed scarlet uniform, tracks a man with an ivory-handled gun, finds a sunken sledge of gold and learns that every person he meets carries a second story.
What 雪盲 is about
What would you do if a stranger's voice on the radio, reading a letter meant for someone else, seemed to speak straight to your own lost family? Kitchener Tearl, a young man in New York, spins his dial one evening and hears a message for Sergeant Buck Tearl of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The dead do not always die, it says, and it is signed Diane.
Snow-Blind is an adventure novel by Albert M. Treynor. It follows Kit into the northern forests of Canada, where his father, a police inspector, vanished twelve years earlier and where his brother may now serve under another name.
対象読者. This is for readers who love snowbound adventure, mounted police and mysteries from the old northern frontier. If you enjoy loyal brothers, sharp-tongued heroines and owls in the dark, you will feel at home.

A radio message sends Kit north
Kit hears the message by accident. He is twenty-four, he lives in a Park Avenue apartment, and he turns his radio dial on an idle evening. A station is reading family greetings to men at the farthest police outposts. Then comes an odd letter for Sergeant Buck Tearl at Port-o'-Prayer.
The name strikes Kit hard. His father, Inspector Bill Tearl, walked out of a sub-post more than twelve years ago and was never seen again. His brother Jerry, a Yale halfback with a terrible temper, nearly beat a man to death on Broadway and fled. Kit guesses that Buck Tearl is Jerry under a nickname.
He tells his sister Jane that every January for twelve years, an unsigned money order for five thousand dollars has reached the family from a different city. Kit goes north, and at Port-o'-Prayer a storekeeper says a big, soft-spoken sergeant left a month ago for Saut Sauvage. Kit buys dogs, a sled and snowshoes.
One small, strange message can reopen a family's oldest wound and send a man to the end of the map.

Diane Durand is a spirited young woman Kit meets in the woods. She says she is hunting her uncle, fights beside and against Kit, and gives her name to the radio message that starts the story.

Is Snow-Blind an easy adventure to follow?
Yes, in the sense that it is brisk and clear. Chapters are short, scenes are vivid, the humor is lively, and each chapter closes on a hook that pulls you into the next.
