マーシア・スカイラー in short
Marcia Schuyler follows a girl who buys a dress with berry money and soon stands in her sister's wedding veil. Kate runs off with a naval captain, David Spafford is left without a bride, and Marcia, seventeen and shy, steps into the empty place. Through aunts, rivals, a smooth deceiver, and a quick-witted neighbor named Miranda, the young wife learns who she is.
What マーシア・スカイラー is about
What would you do if your sister vanished on her wedding morning, with the guests already driving up the lane? Marcia Schuyler, barely seventeen, has to answer before the breakfast is cold. Her stern father offers her to the jilted bridegroom, and she says yes.
Grace Livingston Hill, an American novelist known for warm, faith-minded romance, wrote this novel of a village marriage that begins as a rescue. It all begins with a pink-sprigged chintz dress bought with blackberry money.

A girl picks berries for a dress
Marcia Schuyler is seventeen, and her house is busy with someone else's happiness. Her sister Kate is about to marry, and every bed and chair holds linen, silk, and lace for the bride. Marcia helped sew it all, yet her own brown dress has no hem left to let down. She decides she wants one new thing that belongs to her.
Early in the morning, Marcia leaves the kitchen and crosses the meadows to pick berries on Blackberry Hill. Every berry becomes a pink sprig in her mind, for she has her eye on a pink and white chintz in the village store. She sells the berries and buys the cloth with her own earnings.
In one day she sews the dress, and she makes the skirt a little longer than usual. The next evening she pins up her braids and walks downstairs. Everyone stares, because the child has become a young woman. A small act of independence can open a door you never knew was there.
