Orthodox Daily Prayers gathers devotional texts from the Eastern Orthodox Church, shared across Greek, Slavic and other Orthodox traditions for centuries. It has no single author. Begin the day by standing still
The morning rule starts with a few plain instructions. Rise without laziness, gather your thoughts, and make the Sign of the Cross. Then stand in silence until the senses grow calm. Only after that come three prostrations, each with a short cry for mercy.
That cry asks Jesus Christ, the Son of God, to have mercy on a sinner. It comes back many times in later sections. The repetition is on purpose. A phrase said again and again stops being an idea and becomes a habit of the heart.
