Shakespeare's Sonnet 19

Shakespearen sanat ja selkeä nykykielinen teksti rinnakkain, säe kerrallaan. Luettavissa maksutta.

Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion’s paws,And make the earth devour her own sweet brood;Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger’s jaws,And burn the long-liv’d phoenix, in her blood;Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleets,And do whate’er thou wilt, swift-footed Time,To the wide world and all her fading sweets; But I forbid thee one most heinous crime:O! carve not with thy hours my love’s fair brow,Nor draw no lines there with thine antique pen;Him in thy course untainted do allowFor beauty’s pattern to succeeding men.Yet do thy worst, old Time; despite thy wrong,My love shall in my verse ever live young.

All-devouring Time, blunt the lion's claws and make the earth swallow her own beloved young. Pull the sharp teeth from the fierce tiger's jaws, and burn the long-lived phoenix alive. Bring happy and sorrowful seasons as you pass, and do whatever you want, swift-moving Time, to the wide world and all its fading beauties.
But I forbid you one terrible crime: do not carve wrinkles into my love's beautiful forehead with your passing hours, or draw lines there with your pen that makes things old. Let him pass through your course untouched, a model of beauty for future generations.
Still, do your worst, old Time. Despite the harm you do, my love will live forever young in my verse.

Onko moderni versio koko teksti?

Kyllä. Sonetin jokainen säe on tässä selkeällä nykyenglannilla, samassa järjestyksessä ja Shakespearen omien sanojen rinnalla.
