Ce se întâmplă

  1. The speaker leaves the Palace with Weena, gathers fuel, and lights it outside the woods to frighten pursuing Morlocks.
  2. Morlocks surround them in darkness; Weena becomes unconscious, and the speaker loses his direction while protecting her with matches and camphor.
  3. He builds a campfire but falls asleep, then wakes under attack without his matchbox and fights with his iron bar.
  4. The spreading forest fire drives the Morlocks away, and he escapes to a clearing without finding Weena.
  5. He stops striking the Morlocks when he recognizes their blindness and helplessness, then spends the night distressed among them.
  6. At dawn, he searches unsuccessfully for Weena, heads toward the White Sphinx, and discovers loose matches in his pocket.
