Studnia na Krańcu Świata in short
The Well at the World's End follows Ralph, the youngest son of a small king, from a drawn straw to the far edge of the world. He rides through an abbey, a perilous wood, a town built on slavery, a castle of plenty, and the cruel House of Utterbol. He meets a lady of the wildwood and a maiden named Ursula who seeks the same Well.
What Studnia na Krańcu Świata is about
What would you do if your father let chance decide your whole life? In The Well at the World's End, King Peter of Upmeads sends his four sons to a crossroads called the Want-way and has them draw straws. Ralph, the youngest, draws the shortest straw and must stay home. He does not stay.
William Morris, the English poet, designer and socialist, wrote this romance near the end of his life, in the voice of the old tales. The book gives you the whole road: an abbey, a forest that earns its name, a city of slaves, a castle of plenty, and mountains no map shows. You also learn what the Well is said to do. It eases weariness, wins hearts and may give years beyond counting.
Dla kogo. You will love this book if you enjoy quests, hidden springs and forest roads, old tales of knights and wise women, tender love, and a hero who grows from a boy into a leader of men.

Chance sends three sons out and one home
King Peter rules the small land of Upmeads, and his four sons long for a wider world. At last he agrees to let them go, but one must stay to care for him and his wife. He cannot choose, so he lets straws decide.
Each of the elder sons gets a squire for the road. Ralph draws the shortest straw and must go home with his father. His face grows troubled, yet he sings at supper and goes to bed merry, as if nothing were wrong.
Before dawn he hides his armor in a willow copse, saddles his horse Falcon and splashes across the ford. He rides south to Wulstead, where the merchant Clement Chapman and his wife, Dame Katherine, take him in. Katherine gives him a necklace of blue and green stones. Clement tells him that whoever drinks at the Well wins every heart, and that it lies beyond the Dry Tree.
Ralph's choice to leave is the first step of the whole book.
